The word ‘yoga' comes from the ancient Sanskrit root ‘jug', which can be translated as ‘connect the body, heart, and mind.' Yoga was developed more than 5,000 years ago. Since then, it has fit itself perfectly into everyday daily life. At the rising of the sun, like a proper yogi, practise the ‘sun salutation' and, at nightfall, a cycle of ‘moon salutations' followed by a meditation session. There are more than a hundred yoga variants, most taught in different centres in Delhi.
Sivananda Yoga is a reputable place, located in a bungalow-cum-ashram. Here, you string together different stretching postures, inversions, and twists and, for experienced yogis, the headstand or sirsasana. The Yogakshema Centre teaches Master Guru Ji, alias BKS Iyengar's fire tradition. These posture alignment courses are called Iyengar yoga.
