Vizcaya Museum: the time of the Renaissance

Once the house of a recluse, the Vizcaya is one of Miami's most popular tourist spots. This mansion contains treasures.

This is probably one of the most amazing places in the Miami area. Visit the Vizcaya villa, an Italian Renaissance-style mansion that overlooks Biscayne Bay, and you will believe yourself four centuries back in time. It was actually built between 1914 and 1916.

At the time, about a thousand workers made the dream of a lonely old man fascinated by the Renaissance come true. With his fortune, James Deering, heir to a company manufacturing farm equipment, built this palace of three floors decorated with furniture, tapestries, carpets, sculptures, and other works of art purchased in European antiques stores.

The gardens are in the image of the building: fountains, statues, and small bridges give them the look of an Italian park. Visit the lounges, the music room with its painted walls, the dining room, the patio with its limestone flooring inlaid with coral, and the kitchen with its display of Quimper pottery… Everything is fascinating.
