Triennale Design Museum: the first museum dedicated to contemporary design

Milan is the capital of fashion… and of design too.

Every year in April, the city vibrates to the rhythm of the Salon del Mobile. This international event brings together all the major design labels like Cassini, Kartell, Alessi, Artemide as well as emerging designers like Daniele Bortotto and Giorgia Zanellato.

It was therefore logical in Milan that there would be a space dedicated to the art of furniture, which has had so much of an impact on the city. In 2007, the design museum opened on the third floor of the Milan Triennale. Thanks to a very rich curation, including exhibitions of various projects, drawings, photographs and models, film screenings, conferences and the possibility to consult of archival books and magazines on site, the museum reveals the past without being confined by it. One of its best exhibits tells the story of electric appliances, showing how they transformed themselves over the 20th century into what they are today. Absorbing and even exciting, by turns!
