Cycling is a key activity in Guadeloupe. Each year in August, for ten days, cycling lovers live out their passion at the Tour de Guadeloupe. Created in 1948, this competition evolved year by year until it became an international event in 1979. Since 2005, the Cycling Tour of Guadeloupe has even become a UCI America Tour race, one of the five continental circuits of the International Cycling Union.
Continental, national, regional, and small local clubs participate. In 1991, Molière Gene became the first Guadeloupian to win the competition, followed by Boris Carène in 2011. Over its prologue and nine stages, the tour offers the opportunity to discover amazing landscapes, such as the rainforest in the national park and the magnificent turquoise waters of the coastline.
