It's official. The Pic du Midi is the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe in an inhabited area. Astronomers assigned this label by working against light pollution that interferes with stargazing.
So you can imagine the purity and transparency of the air, and the light at its top. To scale it, you do not need to be an experienced hiker. Take the cable car, which takes you up to 2,877 metres. The climb is beautiful. You cross 1,000 vertical metres in 15 minutes. Terraces have been designed to allow you to admire the splendour of its landscapes upon your arrival at the top. The view around extends about 300 kilometres. You follow the crest of the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. It's so beautiful, so stunning that the site was declared a national nature site. This magic is also present at night.
You can participate in star gazing nights, but also sleep on the summit with only the stars for company. Imagine the sunset over the mountains, the variations of red and orange. Sublime…
