Takahashi Collection & The Container: the Alternative Tokyo

Cutting-edge contemporary art can be seen at the Takahashi Collection or in a shipping container dressed up as an art gallery in Nakameguro.

The Takahashi Collection includes 2,000 works collected since the 1990s by psychiatrist Dr. Ruytaro Takahashi himself. A major contemporary art collector, he opens his collection to the public several times a year via thematic exhibitions (visit the website to know their agenda).

A true curator of young talent, he has promoted the success of world- renowned artists such as Makoto Aida, Takashi Murakami and Akira Yamaguchi. Bross/The Container is the most insane gallery in Tokyo, offering top-notch and wilfully unusual programming since 2011. A hair salon dressed up as an art gallery or a gallery disguised as a hair salon?

This implausible premise seduces more and more artists of the new generation. Recently, the Japanese artist Yuta Hoshi transformed the gallery into a contemporary temple dedicated to prayer and meditation. Inspired by Hindu mythology, the installation mixed different technologies and included video, painting, and sculpture.
