The Getty is having a long-awaited retrospective of Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989). He used stylized black-and-white imagery to realize his portraits, nudes, and still life series. Beyond the erotic power that made his work famous, the exhibition presents all aspects of the artist's work, from the early 1970s to his early death in 1989. This is a rich exhibit that includes pictures that are, at times, unexpected, some of which have seldom been seen! The Getty Museum is a unique place to discover, both for the architecture and for the exhibits. This exhibit is in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); each museum has one component of the show.
