Museum of Modern Art: 20th and 21st Century Art

Discover contemporary Argentine art in an imposing building.

Created by the art critic Rafael Squirru in 1956, the Museum of Modern Art (MAMBA) remained for many years without its own building – a kind of ghost museum. It was only in 1986 that the museum was finally transferred to this beautiful red brick building in the heart of San Telmo, which originally housed a cigarette factory.

The museum has an exceptional collection of over 7,000 works of contemporary art: artists from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, including geometric paintings by Argentine artist Emilio Pettoruti, sculptures by Pablo Curatella Manes, the fantastic visions of Xul Solar, and works by Antonio Segui. The museum also displays rare works by international artists such as Miró, Kandinsky and Picasso.

The auxiliary spaces, renovated in 2010, host great temporary exhibitions.
