Maitai Lapita Village, respect for tradition

The island of Huahine is home to many ancient relics, and its rich past and culture the hotel honours by ensuring travellers have the warmest welcome possible.

The Maitai hotel keeps its promise. Its name means 'all is well' in Tahitian. Indeed, vacations here are always a success in this little hamlet, which combines a restaurant, swimming pool and 32 air-conditioned bungalows set on the banks of a small lake or in the heart of a botanical garden. The architecture is reminiscent of traditional Polynesian houses, including ancient shelters for pirogues. Several display windows also show everyday objects and ornaments of the Lapita culture found in 1970 during excavations.

Other archaeological sites can be visited on Huahine, and you can also tour by pirogue. Unless you prefer horse-riding or cycling…

The hotel offers a diverse array of activities, like scuba-diving, sea kayaking and snorkelling. Another asset of the establishment: it was one of the very first to commit to EarthCheck environmental and social control. On a daily basis, Maitai Lapita Village endeavours to reduce water and electricity consumption, as well as manage waste production. Furthermore, environmental operations are regularly undertaken to educate and train the staff in sustainable development and ecogestures.
