This is a South Beach institution. The house specialty: crab claws accompanied by delicious sauce, but only served from October to May. Equally tasty is the Key lime pie.
The restaurant opened in the early 1920s when Joe, who suffered from asthma, and Jennie Weiss, both of Hungarian origin, left New York. At the time, good food was scarce in this part of Miami Beach. They opened a small spot and it was a success, and it has never wavered since. The restaurant is still in the family, generations later. Local customers and tourists throng to it. No reservations: you give your name when you arrive, have a drink at the bar, and wait for them to call you when a table becomes free.
First come, first served, so it is best to arrive early. If you don't want to wait, they do takeaway.
