This splendid five-star hotel has a new look: 1950s decor, very vintage and colourful, designed by Olga Polizzi, the director of Rocco Forte Hotels design. The renovated Irene is inventive and accessible to all, with a terrace that gives onto the Piazza della Repubblica. In the kitchen, under the leadership of the whimsical Fulvio Pierangelini, chef Giovanni Cosmai works with only the freshest and most fragrant produce in all of Tuscany.
Sunday is a 'lunch de la nonna' (grandmother) of roast chicken. Other dishes include a sole with capers, mashed potatoes and artichokes, a breaded escalope with saffron rice and string beans or a Tuscan beef lasagne in Chianina sauce, all served with olive oil from San Vincenzo, where Fulvio had his restaurant Gambero Rosso, once the most famous restaurant in the world.
