Johannesburg boasts excellent golf courses. If you are a beginner, or in need of practice greens, opt for the World of Golf just north of Johannesburg, in Midrand. Open until 9:00 p.m., you can discover the different areas of their golf ‘universe', including the ‘world of bunkers', the ‘world of fairways' and the ‘world of chipping'. You can also take a trip to Kyalami Country Club that also has excellent golfing options.
Alternatively, there is Sun City, a two-hour drive from Johannesburg, near the rugged mountains of Pilanesberg. Part resort and part amusement park, the site is a true tropical paradise, combining 22 different landscapes that are home to more than 1.6 million plant species, 70,500 square metres of water, an entertainment centre, two golf courses, a fitness centre, and several hotels, including the legendary Palace of the Lost City, the most spectacular of all. The legendary South African golfer Gary Player designed both of the golf courses here.
