The Algerian Museum of Modern Art – MAMA – showcases its new collections, loaded with various creations, gifts of renowned artists. Amongst the dozens of works exhibited, one will discover signatures by Mokrani, Ali Khodja, Bellakh, Hakkar, Bouzid, Khadda, Ould Mohand, Zoubir, Chagrane, Hioun, Guita, Medjeber, Yahiaoui and, of course, M'hamad Issiakhem, who passed away in 1985.
This founding member of the National Union for Fine Arts (1963), also Head of studies at the Oran School of Fine Arts and graphic arts teacher at the Algiers Architecture and Urbanism Polytechnique School, was a renowned editorial cartoonist, illustrator and designer. In 1980, he was awarded the Golden Simba for painting, an award designed by the UNESCO to promote African art. You can have a look at M'hamad Issiakhem's art as soon as you land at the Algiers airport, since he worked on site to create a huge fresco in 1977.
