Completely renovated in 1999, this other elegant jewel of the Ferragamo family is in perpetual motion. One day, it hosts an exhibition of photographs by David LaChapelle, another, those of Steven Klein or Lise Sarfati, followed by a retrospective of Magnum cult photographer Elliott Erwitt. In the cradle of the Renaissance, this hotel, the precursor of Florence's hotel renewal, still stands out like a UFO.
The artist and designer Simone D'Auria books the art happenings throughout the year. He put 60 giant spoons on the facade, to honour the Italian artist and designer Bruno Munari. From inside its high-design rooms of Asian-inspired décor, it is impossible to conceive that the throngs of tourists strolling on the Ponte Vecchio or queued at the entrance of the Uffizi Gallery are just a few steps away. With a pool in the basement, a lounge on the roof, and breakfasts fit for a king—could life really be this good?
