Far from the urban bustle, the residential area of Oak Park is an architectural marvel, and much more peaceful. Its history is linked forever to architect Frank Lloyd Wright, inventor of “Prairie”, a pioneering style of modernist architecture from the second half of the 20th century.
The house that Wright built here for his family, with its long prairie-like horizontal silhouette, low rooftops extending beyond the walls, and long stretches of windows, terraced and often decorated with stained glass, is a true jewel.
The Chicago Architecture Foundation offers tours, both inside and outside the building, and in the surrounding neighbourhood.
