Small Mauritian fishing boats offer sport fishing, as Mahébourg Bay is full of very large fish lurking just offshore. Among generally sighted species: garfishes, damselfishes, scissortail sergeants and many more. But be warned: patience and physical strength are needed to land a blue marlin, a shark, a bonito, a pilgrim, or a barracuda.
For the less hardy, hand line fishing is also practiced a great deal on the island. On their small colourful boats, Mauritian fishermen will be happy to share their tricks with you. And to mix things up a bit, they regularly move anchor. What better way to explore the captivating turquoise waters of the Mahébourg Bay?
