The National Maritime Museum, the Musée d'Art and the Hôtel des Arts: three great places to discover

Near the harbour and the clock tower, the splendid building of the National Maritime Museum, with its monumental gate dating from 1738, is one of the few sites that was not destroyed during the Second World War.

Completely renovated, the museum has a rich collection of models, paintings, maps, and prints illustrating the glorious maritime history of Toulon. Less than 800 metres away, the Musée d'Art, behind its splendid facade dating from the 19thcentury, offers an extraordinary collection of more than 3,000 pieces archaeological objects and master paintings from a wide panorama of art movements from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Particularly strong are the collections of Provençal artists, especially landscape painters and Fauvists.

The Hotel des Arts, located a stone's throw away, hosts ambitious temporary exhibitions of renowned contemporary artists. Painting, photography, architecture, and digital arts if you're more a fan of contemporary art, this is a must.
