Charlotte Street Hotel: in the footsteps of Virginia Woolf

Charlotte Street Hotel: in the footsteps of Virginia Woolf

Located in the famous Bloomsbury area, a few metres from the British Museum, this hotel is part of the Firmdale Hotel Group, which also owns the Haymarket.

The 52 rooms and suites at Charlotte Street Hotel are spacious, colourful and bright, and bear the touch of the designer and owner, Kit Kemp.

A mixture of contemporary style and antiques, with walls in solid colours that contrast with the printed fabrics of various patterns, particularly on oversized headboards and sofas, give the place the feeling of a family estate. The artworks are signed by the Bloomsbury Group, that club of artists and British intellectuals that included Duncan Grant, Roger Fry, and Vanessa Bell, the sister of Virginia Woolf, the central member of the group. The staff is discreet, attentive, and highly effective.

While there is not a separate spa in the hotel, you can have spa treatments provided in the comfort of your room. The Oscar bar and restaurant provides a warm setting for breakfast, and then continues service throughout the day for lunch, tea, or a cocktail.
