Cape Heritage: a night in the centre of town

Cape Heritage: a night in the centre of town

In this old house, you will perhaps feel the beating heart of old Cape Town.

In the centre of downtown, this historic hotel overlooks Bree Street, where trendy bars and restaurants flourish. From here you can easily explore the centre on foot. The building dates to the 18th century, as does its grapevine, among the first planted here, which today produces nearly 20 litres of wine each year. Located on the restored Heritage Square, the hotel is a living link to the shops of yesteryear that sold tobacco, bread, ropes and even firearms.

Within its walls, the sounds of the square, once full of pedestrians and shoppers, still echo. In the rooms, the old wooden floors creak under foot, and the walls are covered with photos and works by contemporary artists. The unique rooms make you feel as if you've gone back to the charm of the past, but with all the luxuries of the present.

The decoration also showcases local crafts from the townships. The hotel is very involved in the community, particularly through the Zip Zap Circus Association, which helps children in difficulty. You can attend the circus' shows by booking in advance.
