Perched high up on the Rua dos Duques de Bragança, this is an address that connoisseurs share, a place where you will find many regulars and well-informed visitors for lunch. Chef José Avillez now runs this restaurant, after extensive experiences at the Bristol in Paris and the three-Michelin-star El Bulli in Catalonia before it closed down in 2011.
After his many apprenticeships, José Avillez settled in Lisbon where he served Portuguese cuisine nicely imprinted with his travels. Today he shares his experience at Cantino do Avillez in Porto. On the menu: beef tartare and New York potatoes, the famous Francesinha - a typical dish made with linguiça (fresh sausage, ham and beef) - or scallops with portobello mushroom risotto. For a sweet note, try the local specialty: 'Toucinho do céu', custard served with raspberry sorbet.
