Board the Britannia

Moored in the port of Leith, the former floating palace of Queen Elizabeth was turned into a museum in 1997: cockpit, cabins, furniture… everything has remained the same.

The city of Leith, about ten kilometres from the centre of Edinburgh, is today a favourite spot for its many art galleries, restaurants, and small shops. It is here that one of the most famous ships in the world was retired, after 968 official trips between 1953 and 1997. On board the Royal Yacht Britannia, which played an active role in the British diplomacy during the second half of the 20th century, you will discover its sumptuous royal apartments and many souvenirs of the royal family. Visit the large living room – furnished with the baby grand piano on which Princess Diana used to play – and the elegant dining room, set up for a gala dinner. Make sure you stay for afternoon tea, served in the lounge at 5 o'clock on the dot. The biscuits are delicious! A grand and royal moment indeed.
