At the end of a tiny alley in a former warehouse is the Blauw aan de Wal restaurant. Stretched over three levels, it is a haven of calm in the heart of the Red Light District. Owner and chef Daan Olthuis favours seasonal produce and proposes Mediterranean-inspired cuisine: creamy octopus risotto, slices of roasted duck breast in marinated berries, wild sea bass filet and potato mash in sauce vierge, to name a few items.
The sober decor emphasises the bricks and beams of the original establishment and is completed by modern, refined furnishings. The tables are spaced sufficiently far apart for conversations to be private. On the ground level, the bar opens onto a shady private courtyard, which is lovely for dining, weather permitting.
Passing tourists as well as numerous locals have made this a favourite spot.
