Founded in 1972, the Pacific Northwest Ballet quickly established itself as one of the best companies in North America for the rigour and quality of its ballets. It is particularly renowned for its production of pieces by George Balanchine, the Russian Ballet choreographer of Georgian origin. One production from his repertoire is included in the programme each year.
Pacific Northwest Ballet performances – for which American Peter Boal is currently the artistic director – are given at McCaw Hall, headquarters of the Seattle Opera. Nearly a dozen different stage shows are given throughout the season in this sumptuous venue, offering a full panorama of the art of dance, from the greatest classics to the most avant-garde productions.
