Amy Winehouse: a family portrait

After successful runs in London, Tel Aviv, Vienna, and San Francisco, it is now Amsterdam's turn to host this intimate exhibition about the British singer, who died in 2011.

Alex Winehouse, Amy's brother, provided the elements for this profoundly moving and intimate exhibition, which includes the late British singer's personal affairs and photographs, as well as a wealth of interesting artefacts belonging to her family.

The result is a unique exhibition that shows a very different Amy Winehouse than the sultry and carousing one that we're used to. Well beyond her public image and extravagances, the primary focus here is her sincere passion for music and fashion, which arose from her private universe and background, especially her childhood in London. A video of a school performance, for example, proves beyond any doubt the astonishing precocity of her talent.
