With 147,200 visitors last year (way more than many other international book shows) and 53 countries represented by 908 publishing companies and more than 25,000 titles, this 21st edition of SILA will take place in the renovated exhibition centre. Most books presented at the show are in Arab, but many also are translated in either French or English.
Last year, tribute was paid to France and its heritage. This time, it is a single author who is given prominence on the 400th anniversary of his death: the creator of Don Quixote.
This anniversary is supported by the Algiers Cervantes Institute, which will produce of a new translation in Arabic by Egyptian writer Suleiman El Attar, accompanied with new artworks done by children of Algiers, city where Cervantes had lived.
