A small selection of shops for a successful shopping trip in Lisbon

Chiado, Avenida da Liberdade, Príncipe Real: Lisbon is a window-shopping wonderland of trendy boutiques and fashion-forward addresses.

The Portuguese capital has no shortage of incredible shops, each one more surprising than the last.
The latest novelty is JNcQUOI (for Je-ne-sais-quoi, a certain something), a very contemporary concept-store that mixes fashion and gastronomy. This multi-dimensional experience over three sets of floors will bring you men's and women's fashion, tailoring service for men, a Ladurée area, a corner devoted to the Assouline book publisher, a restaurant, a "delibar" for a quick lunch of lobster roll or grouper ceviche. A wine cellar and a deli round up the offer.
Wetani is another multi-label shop, located behind the Mercado da Ribeira, a truly customised outlet with an edge when it comes fashion, but not only! You can also find handbags, decorative and vintage objects, tableware and jewellery.
Luvaria Ulisses, a tiny 15-square-metre shop, is a must. Open since 1925, this shop features handmade leather gloves that the shop people will let you try on but only if you follow their very precise instructions. In a diametrically opposed style is the Embaixada Concept Store, a temple of hip with a great café, all housed in a former palace. All the hottest Portuguese brands are on display: limited edition women's clothing and accessories, custom jewellery, cosmetics. A Loja in Mouraria is a true cabinet of curiosities. Run by Marie-Gabrielle, a long-time French expat, it carries traditional Portuguese crafts (porcelain objects, embroidery, jewellery, brooches and pins).
Catarina Portas, a former journalist, is the founder of A Vida Portuguesa, which specialises in luxury Portuguese products: the best brands of scented soaps, famous Tricana sardine tins, books, and vintage trinkets.
If you are looking for candles, Casa das Vellas is the address of your dreams: they've been making handmade candles, including birthday candles, since 1789.
