Welcome to the Cité du Vin, a world of culture!

Published on 06-01-2016

The Cité du Vin, a unique location dedicated to wine culture, opens in Bordeaux on June 1st 2016.

Must-see: iconic architecture
At first glance, one is sure to be moved by the building's architecture. A journey in itself, it gives a shape to many symbols: knotty vine stocks, swirling wine in a glass, tumultuous Garonne river. Every detail of the architecture is set to evoke the soul of wine, as well as the liquid element. With more than 13 350 m² on 10 levels, and up to 55 meters high, the Cité du Vin is begging for discovery.

Located at the heart of the Bordeaux production, in the city, the Cité du Vin is an international showcase and an invitation to all the vineyards in the world.

Must-visit: permanent circuit, belvedere and temporary exhibitions
As the heart of the Cité du Vin, the permanent circuit invites you to a journey through space and time, to discover the cultural, universal and living aspects of the wine inheritance.

Stimulate your senses, discover wine, its dream world and its millennial influence on civilisations and parts of the world, based on history geography, geology, oenology and arts in general.
The last stop of this journey will take you 35 meters high, up to the Cité's belvedere, where you will enjoy a 360° view of Bordeaux, including its vineyards in the distance, while enjoying the best worldwide wine productions.
The permanent circuit is the heart of the Cité, but expect many more attractions in 2017. In a 700 m2 space, two yearly exhibitions will be presented, encompassing various cultural and artistic themes, supported by some of the biggest museums and private collections in the world.
Travel to the heart of the countries and wine-producing regions of the world with unique exhibitions: an “invited vineyard” sets camp each year at the Cité du Vin for you to discover its richness and story.

Must-live: events, workshops, restaurants & shops
All year long, enjoy a varied cultural program in the Thomas Jefferson auditorium, as well as meeting areas, shows, concerts, movies, meetings and discussions. Whether you are a newcomer or an all-time lover, you can live a truly unique experience with the Cité's cultural workshops! Stimulate your senses, push the boundaries of wine tasting, discover how to discern aromas and learn how to harmonize wine and food. Thematic tasting workshops, including a multisensory space, are offered throughout the year, as well as a teaching workshop for the young audience.
Take a break or a souvenir, and enter the Cité's shops and restaurants:  the 7 and its panoramic view, the Latitude 20, and the wine bar, the gourmet snack and the worldwide wine cellar.
Should it be for a few hours, a day or an evening, the Cité du Vin welcomes you as a meeting place for everyone. Thanks to its varied and tailored cultural offering, the Cité du Vin is the major stop for a weekend in Aquitaine, or holidays in Gironde. It is a truly original experience in Bordeaux, you may enjoy as a family outing or with friends!
