Urs Fischer: “False Friends” bound by the frailty of life

06-13-2016 Agenda

In an unusual synthesis between a solo show and a group exhibition, “False Friends” pairs 20 works by Fisher with paintings and sculptures by other contemporary master artists.

Based on a selection of works from the Dakis Joannou Collection, the exhibition establishes connections between the innovative Swiss artist and other works by master contemporaries like Maurizio Cattelan or Jeff Koons.

Using metals and organic materials such as bread and wax, Fisher questions the passing of time and the frailty of life. Gaining inspiration from pop art as well, his work shows affinities and variations, facing Koons' sculptures for instance. In Fisher's work, surfaces and materials are illusory when ruins are mere wood and bread or a piano seems to melt like wax.

A deep, complex and troubling exhibition.
