Tramway: Climb aboard the yellow wagon and travel back in time

Explore the city aboard the Eléctrico 28, Lisbon's most famous tramline, which, for almost a century and a half, has run on its steep streets.

No stay in Lisbon would be complete without a ride aboard the Eléctrico 28, the cute yellow tram you see everywhere.

Virtually unchanged since 1873, when it was pulled by horses, riding the tram is an experience in itself, and a great way to get up and down the hills to see the sights without getting exhausted. Its sinuous path takes in the Baixa, Graça, Alfama and Estrela districts.

The Eléctrico 28 connects with most of Lisbon's major attractions, including the flea market, the Castle of São Jorge, and the Bairro Alto. It is the ideal—and painless—way to explore the city in true comfort and style.
