The Van Gogh Museum: get to know Vincent better

museum

See the world's biggest collection of Vincent van Gogh's paintings.

This museum is dedicated to Vincent van Gogh but also presents the work of some of his contemporaries.

It possesses the richest collection of his work: hundreds of drawings, sketches, studies, and more than 200 paintings. They are presented according to five chronological periods corresponding to major periods in the life of the painter: in the Netherlands, Paris, Arles, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and finally Auvers-sur-Oise, in the Paris region, where he committed suicide in July 1890.

This last period of his life was especially fertile, as the portraits of Dr. Gachet and his daughter and his country landscapes attest. Works that inspired van Gogh, such as Japanese prints, are also presented.

The building was constructed at the beginning of the 1970s and an additional wing was added in 1999. Arm yourself with patience before you go: due to its success, lines can be long.
