The Red Victorian: a community within a hotel

remarkable

Since it opened in 1904, this bed and breakfast at the heart of Haight-Ashbury has encouraged a community spirit.

A century after its opening, this hotel was purchased and renovated, radically changing its decor for today. It went from hippies to geeks, to a community connected on social networks.

You have the choice between three types of beds. You can either book a private room with private bath, a room with shared bathroom, or opt for a hostel room with bunk beds. All are simple and comfortable: the bedding is of immaculate cotton, stained-wood floors are the norm, and little Victorian touches, picked up in flea markets, include a meridian here, a chest of drawers there.

All the rooms have names that are in tune with the neighbourhood. They are called ‘Peace', ‘Summer of Love' or ‘Sunshine'. You can also spend your days in the co-working space and acquire a regular-customer card, which will allow you to benefit from a reduced rate.
