The park with the prettiest views of Panama City

parc

Cerro Ancon, a verdant hill overlooking the city, offers a 360° view of the surroundings.

A well-marked road leads through the jungle to the best viewpoint of Panama. From the top of Ancon Hill, the panorama is breath-taking: great views stretch from the old quarter of the canal to the canal itself. Other viewpoints overlook the modern town, with its vertiginous skyscrapers in the background, and the red roofs of the historical district, which contrast nicely with the blue of the ocean.

The 43-hectare park also houses the administration offices of the canal. Long under US jurisdiction, control was relinquished to the country in 1999, following the signing of a treaty.

Since then, a gigantic flag flies atop the hill, recalling the historical and cultural significance of this place that now occupies a special place in the heart of Panamanians. If you decide to climb the 200-metre hill (count three quarters of an hour's walk), you may be lucky enough to cross paths with armadillos, coatis, sloths, and toucans.
