The Gladstone: celebrate in style

design

The Gladstone Hotel is a quirky and affordable boutique hotel of 37 rooms and suites that are all different, in the chic-bohemian neighbourhood of West Queen West in Toronto.

Housed in a historic Victorian building with high ceilings, the Gladstone was designed by architect George Miller, with the help of local artists and designers. Prepare yourself for an eye-catching design, full-on colour, and a profusion of works of art. The original arched windows, exposed brick walls, and the still-working, manually operated elevator from 1904, are charmingly reminiscent of the building's history.

Yet the 37 rooms and suites, each designed by a different artist, are resolutely contemporary. The Biker Roomtakes up the theme of the movie Easy Rideras revisited by Andrew Harwood, while the four-room suite Canadian Room, both kitsch and romantic, evokes nature and the Canadian landscape with its cedar-wood panelling, the pervasiveness of wool, its railway landscape, and its Trophy chandelier… It is a universe created by The Big Stuff team, who also worked for the Drake Hotel and Jenny Francis Design.

In the hotel lobby, the Melody Bar is the perfect place to mingle with members of Toronto's independent arts scene.
