On the first floor of a Georgian house in New Town, The Dogs has it all: a young, trendy clientele, contemporary decor, service with a smile, and tasty food. The restaurant, which is at the top of a grand staircase, looks majestic with its huge ceiling decorated with 19th-century mouldings and its original fireplace.
It is quite clear how the restaurant got its name: there are pictures of dogs on the walls and dogs lying about on matched cushions. Everything is simple and tasteful, including the cuisine, which features local, seasonal products like mussels with tomato sauce, potatoes with herbs, chicken with mushrooms, lamb with whisky sauce, and smoked haddock. And the wine list is full of beautiful surprises.
