The 31st SPAR Budapest Marathon crosses the Danube and history

Published on 06-10-2016

On 9 October, some 30,000 runners will take part in this legendary marathon.

Last year, 27,860 runners from 80 different countries participated in the 30th edition of the Budapest marathon. On 9 October, at 9:30 a.m., will you be on the starting line at Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) for the 31st edition? Will you cross, from one end to the other, Margit-sziget (Margaret Island), the city's quiet green heart, and touch both banks of the Danube? Will you finally end on Andrássy Avenue, in the ancient centre of Pest, and then cross, after a journey of 42,195 metres, over to Ötvenhatosok tere? If yes, you will, at the end of the race, have traversed the entire history and the sublime panoramas of Budapest. It's rather a flat course—except for the hilly Buda section—with elevated sections confined to the slopes leading to the bridges and the quays.
