Stroll through Chatuchak, the country's largest bazaar

shopping

With 8,000 stalls, this market is a treasure trove of curiosities and bargains.

Superlatives fail to describe this immense weekend market on the outskirts of the city. One thing is sure: you will find everything in this bustling maze, which is divided into 27 thematic sections, including clothing, crafts, antiques, sculptures, food, medicinal herbs, and even pets.

Each has its own great tavern serving regional specialties, and some even have air-conditioning (important as the market can easily turn into a steam bath at rush hour). Arm yourself with a map (available at the entrance of section 27), cash (many merchants do not take credit cards), water, a big smile, and a willingness to barter. Because at ‘JJ' (the nickname of the market), no one goes home empty-handed.
