Sleeping in a historical castle

Located 13 kilometres from the centre of Edinburgh, Dalhousie Castle is a luxurious haven. From its high dungeon, 850 years of history look down upon you.

A Ramsay clan stronghold since the 12th century, this impressive castle overlooks the River Esk and the surrounding area. It's impossible to miss, as its glowing stones are visible for kilometres around. This historical location hosted Edward I in the 13th century and many crowned heads since. Today, you can sleep in one of the castle's 29 luxurious rooms. Maybe you'll meet the ghost of Lady Catherine de Dalhousie, a caring soul who is said to still roam the house in search of her lost love.
Don't be alarmed, though, because you'll feel like a lord in the comfortable rooms, decorated with classic contemporary furniture and some old elements. One of the suites even has a gorgeous canopy bed, a true museum piece. Once installed, head to the reception via the central staircase. Library, dining room ceremonial hall, lounges: you can wander at your leisure through these spaces, all adorned with heavy drapes and precious carpets. But don't dally too long, as you don't want to miss dinner: the chef is a marvel.
