Saint-Denis Theatre: in the heart of the Latin Quarter

art & culture

Part of the city's history for nearly a century, the Saint-Denis Theatre is ‘the' theatre in Montreal.

St. Denis Theatre opened March 4, 1916 and since then has been a major monument in the cultural space of the metropolis.

Throughout the 20th century, the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Comédie Francaise and Stravinksy have performed there, as did the biggest French and international stars, who in turn presented their music-hall shows: Gilbert Bécaud, Maurice Chevalier, Fernandel, Luis Mariano, Yves Montand, Tino Rossi… Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, this entertainment landmark includes two large theatres (one with 2,218 seats and another with 933), with performances year round from all sources and all genres: humour (the famous ‘Just for Laughs Festival' is held each year within its walls), songs, musicals (Greaseis scheduled for the spring of 2016 for eight exceptional performances), theatre, etc.

The Saint-Denis Theatre remains a must for big names in show business.
