Reverie Social Table: a charming table d'hôte


Bring some good stories and put away your phone. The meal is served and conversation is the real dish.

A long wooden communal table with a unique menu and 18 guests this is the concept of this new address, launched by chef Julia Hattingh after her stints at Waterkloof Restaurant in Somerset West, Lucas Carton in Paris, and Franschhoek Kitchen in Cape Town, where she was chef.

Her new playground is located in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of the Observatory. She offers a unique experience with a five-course surprise menu and wines. She gives free rein to her imagination, working with fresh and seasonal products.

Between the dishes, guests get to know each other, and sometimes they promise to meet again. The hostess discourages the use of mobile phones. After all, the shared table is meant for conversation, so get your wireless communicating done before taking a seat. However, a different atmosphere reins…

During the day. The place turns into a café where you can have the dish of the day for lunch while checking your emails via Wi-Fi.
