Parque Lage: a luxurious walk

for food lovers

A colonial café in the heart of the rainforest, offering a tranquil and beautiful interlude.

An alternative to the Jardim Botânico, this smaller public park, housed at the foot of Corcovado, is one of the most beautiful in the city.

The main attraction is the beautiful colonial mansion and former home of wealthy industrialist Enrique Lage and his wife, the famous singer Gabriella Besanzoni. Renovated in the 1920s by the Italian architect Mario Vodrel, it is now occupied by the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage and its café and restaurant. In these quiet surroundings, regulars, families, and curious tourists come for a fresh-air stroll in the residence's English gardens. Snap a few shots in front of the superb swimming pool, admire the view of Christ the Redeemer in the distance, and amuse yourself on the park's little bridges, at the aquarium, or among the monkeys that live here year round.

Statues also dot the park, including that of Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of Brazilian bossa nova.
