The small fishing village of José Ignacio has become over the decades an ‘it-spot' for the international jet set, which comes in winter in search of sun and tranquility. Four friends, all very cosmopolitan, opened this restaurant in a typical wooden house with thatched roof on the waterfront, facing the sea.
Reservations are required from December to March. The local specialties pizzeta, prawns with garlic and, of course, dulce de leche 'volcanoes' are to die for. If you're a bit chilly, you can borrow a shawl by Manos del Uruguay the world's first ethical Fairtrade brand, created here more than 40 years ago.
