Palazzo del Marchese di Camugliano: a 16th-century palace

remarkable

This extraordinary Renaissance palace is right next to the Santa Maria Novella station, making it very convenient for those day trips to Pisa and Siena by train.

Crossing the courtyard that leads to the reception, imagine yourself being expected by the Marquis Lorenzo Niccolini di Camugliano himself, the master who transformed his family residence into a hotel. A kind of living museum of the Florentine Renaissance, the palace has been renovated to perfection. The bathrooms are all in marble and the coffered ceilings, of an impressive height (five metres), still have their original frescoes, beautifully restored.

No rooms or apartments are alike. Sumptuous furnishings, antique canopy beds, stucco, marble fireplaces, Murano chandeliers, luxurious drapes—it's almost like sleeping in an antique shop, such as those on the Via dei Fossi, which is located just behind the hotel. The old kitchen has been converted into a gym and, on the roof, a wonderful garden awaits you for an aperitif or a breakfast of delicious breads and homemade cakes.
