Où chiner à Paris ?

art & culture

From flea markets to antique shops, the same passion animates junkand antique dealers: the quest for beauty and meaning. Here: two walking tours for art lovers, collectors, and curators.

In the north of Paris, the Saint-Ouen flea market at Porte de Clignancourt is the largest concentration of second-hand dealers in the world, with 2,500 antique, vintage clothing, and souvenir stands. The cherished favourite of bargain hunters is Antiques Rodriguez Decoration.

Between Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Orsay Museum, Le Carré Rive Gauche is a neighbourhood of 120 antique dealers and art galleries. From primitive arts to 21st-century design, all objects are certified and guaranteed. On the Rue du Bac is François Hayem, the leading expert of the 18th century, who deals with furniture and objects from the Enlightenment. Hayem has the best eye in the business.
