The comfort is palpable upon entering the Baroque decor that clothes the place. Have fun trying to work out the mythical figures that cover the walls, such as the sun chariot racing full speed across the ceiling and the muses frozen in mannequin poses.
Once in the showcase of the theatre, the feeling of having entered a Baroque cocoon will brighten your evening. It's hot, but not too hot, the small boxes of bright red velvet reminiscent of boudoirs. From the main room, they look like nests dug into the walls. Sitting on chairs as old as Stravinsky, in an electric atmosphere smelling of wax and the antique, the wait here is a ritual that is savoured. Especially thanks to the presence of Catherine Segurane, the legendary heroine of Nice, one of whose exploits adorns the stage curtain.
And indeed, once that curtain is lifted, the atmosphere may seem somewhat licentious for an opera. The silence is fragile, broken by a few chuckles…
