Museum Embankment

museum

Both sides of the Main are lined with renowned museums, covering everything from architecture to film and painting.

These exhibition venues, alongside the river, are the pride of the city planners, and the area has become, in recent years, a cultural centre and a privileged promenade. It is especially fun on Saturday mornings, when it plays host to a large flea market. The museums themselves are all great; they vary in size, renown, and subject, but the best among them are the Städel, the Giersch Museum, the Museum of German Cinema, the German Architecture Museum, and the Museum of Telecommunications.

If you had to choose only one, there's no hesitation head to the 200-year-old Städel, home to one of the most beautiful art collections in the world, covering more than 700 years of European art, including Renaissance, Baroque, and more contemporary masterpieces. Rembrandt, Picasso, Giacometti, Joseph Beuys, and Gerhard Richter are among the artists represented.
