Motel One Hamburg Am Michel: in the heart of the city

hot tip

Born in Germany, this ‘budget design hotel' chain offers good value.

The strong point? Its geographical location. At the end of the Reeperbahn, this hotel is close to the neo-Baroque church of St Michael (Sankt Michaelis). The rooms at the Motel One offer perfect comfort for guests in town for business and/or pleasure. It was renovated in late 2015, with a focus on the common areas.

Hamburg is very present in the decor, either through a freighter model on the wall, the wallpaper in the bar paying homage to the port, or in a nod to the underwater life scrolling on TV screens. The 437 rooms are spread over nine floors. Good to know: you have to choose between the view and the quiet. Some rooms—the highest perched—open onto a fragment of the port but are relatively noisy. The other rooms overlook a quiet street.
