Monaco: between glamour and Romanticism

Perched imperiously on a rock that is at least as impressive as its urban setting, the city-state of Monaco's countless advantages and trappings make it highly attractive, even irresistible.

It is difficult indeed to resist the Belle Époque palaces embedded in this fabled place. There's, for example, the famous Monte Carlo casino, where all the stars crowd on vacation on the Rock, as they seek a haven in which to shine. But Monaco is romantic at heart. Check for yourself by drifting through the medieval alleys of the old town.

From the square of the Princes of Monaco, the choice of joining in the fun of watching the changing of the guard is offered to you. Or let yourself be carried away by the spray and winds on the surrounding benches. However, on hot days, head towards the hushed shadows of the palace, where the freshness is equalled by the beauty. As the afternoon continues, you could open the doors to an underwater world by visiting Monaco's ‘Temple of the Sea', the Oceanographic Museum.

The only route to this location from the palace will take you on a memorable journey along the cliff side, with a succession of gardens planted with Mediterranean species.
