To the delight of New Yorkers in search of the famous Dan Dan Peanut Noodles, rice cooked with tea, or the Kung Pao Burrito (made with pastrami and melting cheese), Mission Chinese Food is back at a new Lower East Side address. The queue at the entrance never ends, even late at night.
The entire old menu is still available, but to celebrate this new era, Danny Bowien (head of both the original Mission Chinese Food in the Mission district of San Francisco and its New York branch) now serves Mission Chinese pizza as well. You will quickly be addicted to the house specials. We recommend trying the green papaya and banana flower salad, Koji grilled chicken, salt and pepper lamb chops, fried celery, and the famous rice with salt cod.
No reservations possible, so we advise you arrive right at the opening and enjoy your wait at the bar, sipping a house cocktail.
