Miniatur Wunderland: the world on another scale

remarkable

Hamburg under a magnifying glass, or almost… This museum of moving miniatures presents this city in another manner, alongside other destinations, which are sure to also make you dream.

You don't have to be a kid to get excited before these animated miniatures. Visitors here are like Alice in Wonderland, when she ate the cake and began her trip into the unknown. There are snowy Austrian Alps, the sunny Grand Canyon, and the bright lights of Las Vegas. There are also Swiss trains, which always run on time, and a chocolate factory supplying (real) mini-doses.

This little world, teeming with details and humour, is controlled by more than 40 computers. The airport is especially well done: some 40 different aircraft (Cessna to the Airbus A380) land and take off on the runway amid the noise of the turbines. In its Hamburg, HafenCity shows all its secrets, including the Elbphilharmonie—its model gives a good overview of the amazing concert hall. Remember to book in advance: the museum is a huge success.
