In Swedish, they are called Köttbullar. When you think of meatballs, you often think of the ones your mother made.
But these are made with as much love and come in a multitude of varieties. Some contain dill, some are made of lamb with fennel seeds or pork with spices. There are also salmon, trout, or herring meatballs, and, finally, for vegetarians, vegetable ‘meatballs'. You choose the accompaniment, with or without cranberries, mustard sauce, potato pancake, or pickled cucumber. You can eat them on the spot or, like many Stockholmers, as a takeaway lunch.
Finally, do you know the secret of a good meatball filling? The crumbs, which are one of its basic ingredients, should always be soaked in milk.
